Position Overview
The Director of Manufacturing is a key position within Raynor’s management team, responsible for production, facilities, quality, and maintenance. Primary responsibilities include developing, coordinating, and implementing the strategic and tactical plan for all manufacturing, facilities, maintenance, and quality functions of the Company.
Reporting Relationship:
The Director of Manufacturing will report to the Vice President of Operations, or in the absence of a Vice President, directly to the President, and is responsible for the following direct reports:
  • Manufacturing Managers
  • Maintenance Manager
  • Quality Manager
Specific Responsibilities:
Production Management
  • Responsible for all aspects of production for the Company. Must establish production standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, safety and complete on-time delivery.
  • Responsible for developing and executing manufacturing policies and controls in the areas of lean manufacturing techniques, materials usage, capacity planning, and production scheduling.
  • Responsible for maintaining and improving production flow and efficiency.
  • Responsible for all production equipment, preventative maintenance, and disposal of used equipment.
  • Responsible for all production, employee relations and communications. Must assist and participate in collective bargaining, labor dis¬putes, grievances, and arbitrations as required.
  • Responsible for assuring compliance with all regulatory and advisory agencies, including EPA, OSHA, FLSA, etc.
  • Responsible for establishing and monitoring relevant production performance metrics, and for the continuous improvement of the same.
Maintenance Management
  • Responsible for Technical Skills which include Plant Maintenance and the Tool Room.
  • Responsible for the Apprenticeship Program, including Maintenance, Tool Room and Fleet Maintenance.
  • Schedules repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment to ensure continuous production operations.
  • Reviews new product plans and discusses equipment needs and modifications with design engineers.
  • Approves requisitions, tools, equipment, and supplies required for operations.
  • Confers with management, engineering, and quality control personnel to resolve maintenance problems and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment.
  • Prepares department budget and monitors expenditure of funds in budget.
  • Submit proposals and monitor expenditures for labor and controllable expenses in areas assigned.
Facilities Management
  • Responsible for all aspects of facility maintenance, housekeeping and security as it pertains to the manufacturing operation of the Company.
  • Champions shop floor organization and cleanliness.
Quality Management
  • Responsible for quality leadership in corrective and preventive action activities, championing the customer and promoting analytical problem solving through sound statistical applications.
  • Champions the quality system infrastructure utilizing formal Quality Management System principles to ensure robust, repeatable, high-quality processes. i.e. ISO 9001 and ISO 17025
  • Develop and oversee standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation, utilizing industry leading methodologies.
Strategic and Tactical Planning
  • Formalize and document a departmental plan that achieves strategic and tactical goals set for the Company, including managerial devel¬opment and continuous improvement of staff. Prepare and submit the annual departmental budget, including capital expenditures.
