OBSERVATIONS FROM THE 2020 INTERNATIONAL BUILDERS SHOW
Once again, this year Raynor Garage Doors participated as an exhibitor at the International Builders Show (IBS) in Las Vegas. If you follow building design and home improvement trends, this is the dream show to attend. Homeowners, builders, remodelers, architects, designers – really every attendee – can find plenty of inspiration at this huge event which hosted more than 1500 exhibitors and 95,000 people.
At the Raynor booth, visitors took particular interest in our newest garage door styles that reflect popular and emerging home design trends. Those parallel trends were hot topics virtually everywhere — in seminars as well as in other building material exhibits throughout the show.
At this year’s show, developments in the Raynor portfolio of garage doors were right in step with the new materials, colors and other popular design influences. Today, there are so many ways to coordinate garage doors with a home’s interior and exterior styling, it’s nearly impossible to mention them all. Here are just a few examples.
New Color Palettes
The show kicked off the year with an impressive array of ideas for anyone involved with residential design and construction. Perhaps most visually evident was the continued uptick in customized color schemes impacting home exteriors as well as interiors.
Homeowners are definitely going beyond the usual beige color solutions this year, opting instead for on-trend colors that are a mix of casual and modern. Several paint companies including Sherwin-Williams debuted their new colors of the year. Sherwin-Williams describes its 2020 palette as bringing “joy, serenity and focus” to the home.
However you may interpret such color nuances, note that garage doors can now be ordered in any color scheme you can imagine. Raynor unveiled our own color program that is also aligned with popular Sherwin-Williams hues. The new ColorWave™ process includes 1500 post-paint color options to add a personal touch. These durable, high-quality polyurethane enamels are solar protected and specially formulated for garage doors, offering superior durability even in extreme climates.

High End Glass Details
The use of specialty glass in cabinets, entrance doors and other areas is a trend we’ve been watching for some time. This year, Raynor amped up its selection of glass inserts to include dozens of clear, obscure and satin looks, textured or smooth finishes, tempered as well as standard.
These glass inserts can be positioned virtually anywhere on the door, placed in diagonal or stacked patterns as well as along the top door panel.Our Aspen AP200 VersaView® series doors offer that flexibility in glass placement, making this an ideal solution when tying into window or door styling elsewhere in the home’s exterior.
Aspen Series™ doors can also be configured with a taller top panel to allow the glass to be larger in that panel, creating more natural light inside the garage.
Garages With High IQ
A trend without apparent limits, it’s clear that any home product that plugs in is controllable via wifi, or soon will be. And while the ability to open and close your garage door from anywhere isn’t new, we still experienced great interest at the Raynor exhibit as visitors remarked about the sheer simplicity of MyQ® garage door opener technology. New Wood Alternatives
Taking place at the same time in an adjacent exhibit hall was the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show. There we spotted many innovations in cabinets, specialty millwork and flooring. The tie-in: Homeowners still obviously love the richness and feel of wood. And building product manufacturers of all types are taking wood finishes and species in some interesting new directions.
For garage doors, wood is definitely still popular though it has somewhat limited application in certain climates. As an alternative, Raynor showcased the new Eden Coast™ by Raynor wood finish doors. They are a marvel of what can be done with composite technology.
On the surface, these elegant doors truly look and feel like real wood. Composite woodgrain overlays are mounted to our rugged steel door panels, adding strength along with up to 10 R-value insulation plus many other features not available with an all-wood door. The Eden Coast doors are impervious to moisture, mold and mildew. Ten wood finishes are available in smooth or textured grains.
